This mural “Los Angeles: Past, Present, Future” was painted by artists Man One, Axis, Swank, Asylm, Vyal and Mear on a 10’ x 150’ wooden construction barricade in front of the historic Continental Building on the corner of 4th and Spring Streets in downtown Los Angeles. This mural was commissioned by the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, and depicts a combination of historical and imagined views of the Los Angeles region from pre-historic times into the future. A few of the scenes from left to right depict the following: the La Brea Tar Pits, the indigenous people of the Americas, The coming of the railroad, a historic 1900’s view of 4th and Spring street, a modern view of downtown LA, circa 1997, the near future, and the distant future of a utopian garden city. This mural was painted with all spray paint. This mural was honored by the LA Weekly as a “Best of LA” mural.
